Air pollution poses a major threat to human health - responsible for 4.2 million deaths per year due to stroke, heart disease, lung cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. While low and middle income countries are at highest risk, no country is immune to air pollution.
Cleaner forms of transport, housing, power generation and waste management can effectively reduce sources of air pollution with the potential to markedly improve global human health outcomes.
We as individuals can make simple steps to improve air quality too - like walking or cycling to work, ensuring our vehicles comply with emissions regulations, recycling regularly, and not incinerating waste.
